The Halifax City SC “A” Programs are designed for players in the Train to Train stage of development who are ready for competitive play. These programs introduce players to structured team environments, league competition, and advanced training, while continuing to build a strong technical and tactical foundation.
Players in the “A” Program compete in the Nova Scotia Soccer League (NSSL) and represent Halifax City SC in regional competitions.
Age Groups:
U12: Born in 2014
U13: Born in 2013 (*Girls are both 2013 & 2014)
U15: Born in 2011-2012
U18: Born in 2008-2010
Parent/Guardian Role: Supportive from the sidelines, ensuring players are committed to training, matches, and team responsibilities.
Duration: 20 weeks total

All teams are led by qualified coaches meeting Canada Soccer and Soccer Nova Scotia licensing standards. Requirements include:
Respect in Sport certification
Ethical decision-making training
Valid police checks
Completion of age-appropriate coaching licenses (C-License, Soccer for Life, etc.)
This ensures players are in a safe, competitive, and development-focused environment.
Team Training: building tactical understanding, positional awareness, and fitness
League Play: structured competition in the NSSL against regional opponents
Technical Development: continued focus on dribbling, passing, finishing, and first touch under pressure
Game Understanding: decision-making, adapting to game scenarios, and playing within a team structure
Player Growth: fostering commitment, sportsmanship, and resilience on and off the field
The program uses the Spond App for team communication, scheduling, and updates. Players and parents will receive a unique link to join prior to the start of the season.
Before the season begins, parents/guardians will receive an online presentation introducing:
Club values and philosophy
Player and parent expectations at the competitive level
Safe sport guidelines and requirements
Club code of conduct
Players must be committed to training and league matches.
Teams compete in the Nova Scotia Soccer League as part of the club’s competitive pathway.
Parent support is essential for transportation, commitment, and maintaining a positive team culture.
